Celebrating a Knighted Alumnus: Sir Nishan Canagarajah
It is with immense pride and joy that we announce that Professor Nishan Canagarajah, distinguished alumnus of St John’s College, Jaffna, and the esteemed President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Leicester, has been awarded a knighthood in the 2026 King’s New Year Honours.
This prestigious recognition stands as a testament to Sir Nishan’s exceptional leadership, unwavering commitment to academic excellence, and dedicated service to higher education and society at large. His remarkable contributions have not only advanced scholarly pursuits but have also inspired generations within and beyond the academic community.
