Obituary For P S A Arulraj

TUESDAY 08 APRIL 2025 | 11:30 AM TRINITY FULL GOSPEL CHURCH

Dear friends,

As we journey through life, the inevitable passage of time brings with it the sorrowful loss of those dear to us. Today, our hearts are heavy as we mourn the passing of Mr. Arulraj, who was more than just a figure from our past; he was a significant presence in my formative years.

I vividly recall my first days at St John’s College at the tender age of eight. Overwhelmed and struggling to settle into the unfamiliar environment of the boarding house, I was fortunate to encounter Sir. His calm demeanor and unwavering support were a beacon in those difficult early days. He possessed that rare ability to be a strict disciplinarian while radiating genuine care and concern for each student.

Mention “Arulraj Sir” to any student from the 1960s and 70s, and you will undoubtedly be met with a knowing nod and fond recollections. He was a man of deep faith, unyielding in his principles. Working tirelessly in the College office as the Principal’s Personal Assistant, he was the quiet force that ensured the smooth functioning of both the administration and the welfare of the students. His quiet yet firm voice, his caring and humble nature, and his active involvement in all aspects of college life made him an exceptional member of the staff.

I was blessed with the opportunity to reconnect with Sir a few years ago in Colombo, where I also had the pleasure of meeting his wife . It is with profound sadness that we have now lost them both in recent times. That meeting in Colombo remains etched in my memory. The embrace we shared, the tears we shed – perhaps they were tears of joy, a poignant acknowledgment of the years that had passed and the enduring bond we shared. I will never forget that day.

Sir, thank you from the depths of my heart for everything you did. You were a guiding presence during my vulnerable early years. We will deeply miss your steadfastness, your kindness, and your quiet strength. Though you are no longer with us, the impact you had on our lives and the love we hold for you will remain forever.

Rest in peace, Sir – you are truly one of a kind.
